Alpacas were originally a highly valued animal of the ancient Incan civilisation. They were an essential component in the provision of food and clothing for the Incas over thousands of years and could be found in various regions of South America.

Peru, Chile, Bolivia and Argentina
- Lifespan
15 to 25 years
- Breeds
Huacaya (wa-ky-uh) and Suri (soo-ree)
- Average Height & Weight
90 -95cm at the wither when fully grown
Males about 85kg, Females about 70kg.
- Newborns
Called cria (cree-ah). Twinning extremely rare.
- Induced Ovulators
No fixed breeding season. Receptive females can be mated at any time of the year
- Gestation
average 335 days to 370 days
